Rick, a native of Minnesota and now a resident of Phoenix, Arizona, continues to offer our community fresh and unique art through his creative ability and versatile artistic talents. Rick expresses his creativity with a variety of mediums such as paint, wood, metal, paper, cement, plaster and Lucite. More recently Rick has added CAD drawing and painting to his artistic background. The artist has used his skills to create and design a variety of imaginative art pieces, unusual and beautiful landscape, office and home designs. Rick’s newest expression involves the use of natural tanned leather and the human torso.
THE ART: LEATHER TORSO SCULPTURE It is likely that you have never seen anything like it. It is the artists belief that he is the only person doing this kind of art. Rick has developed the art-form and the process of shaping the leather beyond it's normal boundaries or limits. The sculpture, when complete, only uses a simple light weight hidden frame to keep its shape and for display purposes some have decorative bases included. These sculptures are unlike ones usually of animals and seen at import stores. They are not leather wrapped on a clay or wood base. Rather they are hollow and open in the back. Unlike plaster, wood or some plastic sculptures, these are very light weight, less then most pictures of the same size might be. Most of the technique is lightly illustrated at this site.

THE PRESENTATION
In the process of creating leather facial masks taken from a variety of casts, unique dimensional and somewhat mystical faces began to evolve. As this evolution progressed, Rick felt the beauty of the human torso would be an excellent challenge for his work with leather.
The beauty of Rick’s leather sculptures will be the center of attention and conversation in your home or office surroundings and demands very little maintenance other than an occasional light, soft dry brush or feather dusting.
